What is therapy?

At Regal Private Therapy Practice, we recognise that life as an adult can bring both opportunities and challenges. Whether you're navigating relationships, career pressures, parenthood or emotional struggles, these challenges can sometimes feel overwhelming. Therapy offers a safe, supportive and non judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to gain clarity to develop the skills needed to cope and create meaningful change.

We view therapy as a collaborative process where we work together with you to understand the root causes of your challenges, what is keeping them going and explore the best ways to address them. Our approach is not just about fixing problems; it’s about helping you uncover your strengths, develop new skills, and create lasting positive change.

Types of therapy available

At Regal, all our Clinical Psychologists are NHS trained in a range of evidence-based therapies meaning they draw upon combination of scientifically proven therapy models to personalise therapy to your unique needs. This is known as an “integrative approach.” Some of the therapies used at Regal include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), which are all designed to help you break unhelpful cycles, provide strategies for everyday life, help you manage challenges and make sustainable improvements and meaningful change.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

REWORD: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps you manage your problems by altering the way you think and behave. It’s most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression, but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems. CBT focuses on helping individuals identify and change contributors to emotional stress.

  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

REWORD: The main aim of Compassionate Focused Therapy is to teach the skills and attributes of compassion. Compassion focused therapy is particularly useful for those who criticise themselves heavily and who have difficulty in feeling warmth toward, and being kind to, themselves or others.

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

REWORD : The aim of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is to help you accept what you can’t change and change what you can. ACT helps you accept the things out of your control and work towards living a life you value. This includes popular techniques such as mindfulness.

  • Our initial session is a chance to explore your concerns and better understand the challenges you're facing. By the end of our meeting, we'll discuss a potential plan moving forward, and you'll have the opportunity to consider if this fits for you. If required, you’ll also have the option to schedule further appointments.

Building strong relationships with our clients is at the heart of what we do. While knowledge and training are important, they only matter if clients feel comfortable enough to return for this to be put into practice. That’s why our priority is to create a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where we can work through your challenges together.

  • Therapy sessions last 50 minutes and will be scheduled at the same time each week for your convenience.

To get the most out of therapy, regular weekly attendance is important. Late cancellations and missed appointments are payable in full unless 48 hours notice is given or in exceptional circumstances.

If weekly sessions aren’t maintained, your therapist may not be able to continue treatment unless you've agreed on a maintenance plan after completing regular sessions.

  • The length of treatment varies for each person. Some may need just six weeks, while others with more deeply rooted challenges might attend for up to a year.

In certain cases, such as minor phobias or panic attacks, even a few sessions can be effective.

Everyone’s journey is unique, but we find that those who are motivated and complete the between session tasks tend to achieve the best results.

  • Private therapy fees range from £X - £X, depending on the type of therapy and the practitioner. Appointments from 5pm onwards incur an additional £30 fee.

We offer 10% discounts for student and NHS staff.

    We also accept health insurance.

  • The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) offers guidance for therapists on the most suitable types of therapy for various challenges faced by individuals, couples, and families. While we adhere to these guidelines, we recognize that everyone is unique. We take a flexible approach to ensure the therapies we provide are tailored to meet your specific needs.

  • Absolutely! Research shows that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions. Whilst we offer in—person sessions in our Maryborne clinic, more and more people are opting for online therapy as a convenient and effective alternative to in-person appointments. The choice is yours!
